Health & Fitness

To provide the safest environment possible for our community as we fight the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex (ARCC) is currently open for Mount students and employees only.

The ARCC will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the university. Learn more about our Return to the Mount and plans for Spring 2021.

We are here to support your mind, body, and spirit, through encouraging healthy eating habits, mindfulness, yoga, circuit training, fitness classes, and cardio programs that you can do on your own.

Fitness Classes

Hybrid fitness classes, a combination of in-person and Zoom participation, will begin on Monday, March 15, 2021, and will be open to Mount students and employees only.  All classes are being offered free of charge.

  • In-person participation will take place in the Group Exercise Studio in the ARCC.  There will be space for 6 participants and reservations must be made through www.imleagues.com under the "Group Fitness" tab.
  • If you are interested in participating in any of these classes via Zoom, please send a "Fitness Class Zoom Request" from your Mount email address to fitness@msmary.edu.
  • Face coverings must be worn at all times while in the ARCC and for the entirety of every class.
  • You must enter the ARCC through the west sliding doors and check-in at the ARCC's registration desk before proceeding to the studio.  You must show your Mount ID to the desk attendant.
  • If you register for a class and are unable to attend, you must remove yourself from the class in IMLeagues as soon as possible so that someone else may attend.
  • Stretching mats are available: however, you are encouraged to bring your own.

Classes being offered will include Cardio Step, Cycle, Cycle Express, Kick-n-Core, Strength Express, Total Body Strength, Yoga Core, and Yoga Sculpt.

  • CARDIO STEP - Thursdays, 4-4:30 p.m.:  A 60-minute step workout designed to push your cardio into high gear and attack the legs both on and off the step. This workout will strengthen your heart, improve coordination, and tone your body.
  • CYCLE EXPRESS - Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:45-5:15 p.m.:  Enjoy a 30-minute heart-pumping, sweat-producing indoor cycle class.  Great for those with limited time and for those who prefer a shorter workout. You control the resistance on your bike to make the pedaling as easy or difficult as you choose.
  • KICK-N-CORE - Tuesdays, 4-4:45 p.m.:  Sweat away your stress with a combination of non-contact punches & kicks followed by core strengthening exercises.
  • STRENGTH EXPRESS - Thursdays, 4:45-5:15 p.m.:  A 30-minute barbell workout focusing on large muscle groups and compound movements to increase muscular strength and endurance.
  • TOTAL BODY STRENGTH - Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:30-6:15 p.m.:  A barbell workout that incorporates functional strength training by using weights and bodyweight in every movement plane.  The safe, motivating exercises and great music create a thrilling results-based fitness class experience.
  • YOGA CORE - Fridays, 12:10-12:50 p.m.: 30 minutes of yoga-inspired moves targeted to strengthen your entire core region (abs, back, glutes).
  • YOGA SCULPT - Tuesdays, 5-5:45 p.m.: A low-impact workout that utilizes yoga to stretch as well as tone and engage muscles. This class combines the benefits of yoga and relaxation with strength and muscular endurance.

Two classes being offered will be available through Zoom only.  Those include:

  • CYCLE - Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 a.m.: Instructors will guide you through several workout phases including warm-up, steady up-tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, and cool-downs. You control the resistance on your bike to make the pedaling as easy or difficult as you choose. All you'll need are workout clothes, a towel (to wipe your face), a water bottle, and lots of positive energy.
  • MID-DAY RESET & STRETCH - Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:15-12:45 p.m.: 30 minutes of yoga-inspired stretching along with the practice of tai chi, meditation, and focused breathing.

If you are interested in participating in either of these classes via Zoom, please send a "Fitness Class Zoom Request" from your Mount email address to fitness@msmary.edu.
