Compete Ferociously

We take athletics seriously around here. We like to run, jump, hit, dunk, lift, dive, throw and anything else that keeps us active and moving. Mountaineers compete in Division I athletics across 24 programs, as well as two premier sports. And each and every one of us is filled to the top with bona fide, blue and white, busting-at-the-seams Mount Maniac school spirit!

Division I

One out of every four students here competes as an athlete on one of our 24 Division I athletic teams. Some teams are just breaking onto the scene and some have a proud history of success. From the basketball court to the track there's always something to cheer for as the Mount - a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference - competes against some of the best athletes in Division I.

Premier Sport: Men's Rugby

Our men's rugby team is the perfect example of what makes Mountaineers so special. National champions at the club level in 2016, the team now competes at the premier sport level against nationally ranked teams at the highest level offered by USA Rugby.

The team pushes through challenges of endurance and mind, joins together to serve others and each other, and wins matches – a lot. They give their heart and soul to the game with some players even traveling to New Zealand to train. THAT is what the Mount spirit is all about!

Premier Sport: Esports

Esports, one of the fastest growing sports in the world, is now part of the Mount athletics family! Established in 2019, Mount esports has competitive teams playing League of Legends, NBA2K, Overwatch, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Plus, the gaming haven in Purcell Hall is open to all students.

The program is done the “Mount way” in accordance with the university’s values and culture, and promises to be one of the premier programs in the region.

Intramural Sports

Students, faculty and staff have fun playing against one another in a variety of sports leagues and tournaments. Although winning the coveted intramural champion t-shirt is always a goal, the program’s points of emphasis remain sportsmanship and building a sense of community.

This is Emmit

He’s our campus mascot and head of the Mount Maniacs. You won’t have to look too hard to see Emmit all over this mountain – hiking, camping, participating in service trips, and supporting Mount Athletics! (With a head that big, he’s not hard to spot!)
