About the Center for Student Involvement and Belonging

Live Significantly. Mountaineers take these words to heart, challenging themselves to step outside their comfort zones, push boundaries and learn who they truly are. While academic pursuits are the hallmark of a Mount education, a Mountaineer’s interests and passions aren’t limited to choice of major. Their education is not confined by the walls of a classroom. At the Mount, we know that your path to living significantly includes making meaningful connections and exploring ways to grow in all aspects of life. The Center for Student Involvement and Belonging will help you on your journey and find that you belong at the Mount.

How to Get Involved

Ready to meet other students and form lifelong friendships? Joining a student organization will help you meet classmates with similar hobbies and interests. Whether its playing games or academic interests, there are Mounties that want to meet you and welcome you to their social circles on campus.

Block Party

Every Fall, CSIB and Student Activities through a Block Party which features an Activity Fair. The Activity Fair’s main purpose is to showcase the many organizations on campus and to provide an easy way to join any club or leadership development program you are interested in. Block Party is the one-stop shop for helping you find your place in the campus community.

Other Ways to Get Involved

  • Attend an SGA Meeting – All student organization presidents are present for SGA meetings and want to hear your feedback about the campus. They are also always willing to talk about how you can join their organization or get you in touch with likeminded students.
  • Visit the Center for Student Involvement and Belonging in Lower McGowan – The CSIB is always there to help students get connected. Whether it’s a calendar of upcoming social events, helping you get in contact with organizations based on your interests, or helping you figure out who you need to speak with on campus, CSIB is here to help you find where you belong. You can swing by or email the Center with your interests and hobbies to get connected.
  • Start your own student organization – Not finding anything that suits your interests? CSIB and SGA are always willing to work with students to start new organizations. Please read the Registered Student Organization Guide and then complete the Registered Student Organization Application to get started!

Registered Student Organizations

Registered Student Organizations, or “RSOs,” are student groups, clubs, and/or organization that have been officially recognized by Mount St. Mary’s University’s (MSMU) Student Government Association (SGA). RSOs are funded and regulated by SGA’s Executive Board, with primary oversight given to the SGA Vice President of Financial Affairs (VPFA) and the Center for Student Involvement and Belonging (CSIB) Graduate Assistants (GAs).

I'm the treasurer of a student organization - how do I request funding from SGA?

If you're the treasurer of a student organization and want to request funding from SGA, please email csib@msmary.edu.

Does my student organization need a faculty advisor?

All student organizations must have a faculty advisor. Your advisor must fill out the form they were emailed after your application was submitted. If they did not receive the form in their email, please have them reach out to us at csib@msmary.edu.
